The
Oxford
Women's Social Club is for women of all ages from all areas who want to
meet new people, make new friends, get out of the house and have some fun.
There are approximately 20 different activities to choose from each month
including daytime, evening and weekend events. A sample of monthly
offerings include: Restaurant and Home Dinner Parties, Wine Tastings, a
Book Club, several Card Clubs, Craft activities, Museum visits, Antiquing,
Sporting and Exercise activities, Demonstrations, Pot Lucks, Scrapbooking,
a Therapeutic Journaling Class, an Investment Club, Cooking Classes, an
Every Friday Night Singles Group, a Couples Group, a Mothers With Small
Children Group and anything else members may suggest. The current
membership includes women from the Oxford,
Lake
Orion, Rochester, Romeo, Auburn Hills, Clarkston, Ortonville, Metamora and Lapeer
areas.
Meetings are held at
7 pm
the first Wednesday of every month (except Dec.) in the Oxford Veterans
Hall, 28 North Washington (M-24/Lapeer Rd.) in
Oxford. It is just north of Red Knapp's at the light at Burdick St.
in downtown Oxford. There is plenty of lighted parking in back by the entrance.
This club website and calendar are updated several times per month to keep
members informed of the latest additions or changes. Our membership card gets
you discounts on products and services all over the area. We focus
on ways of getting to know each other and not just sticking with those we
have already met. And every meeting is considered a networking event
where members with business cards, brochures, tickets, samples, etc. are
encouraged to bring them and set them out in the designated areas.
This is a club that is about women helping women, and having more fun in
life while doing so.
The club was
started by Oxford
, Michigan
resident Linda Grunewald in the fall of 2003. After 35 years of
married life, Linda suddenly found herself in the midst of a divorce she
did not want. With her world crashing down around her and no
children or family close by she knew that she would have to make friends
locally if she planned on staying in the area, but had no idea how to go
about that. After sincerely praying for an answer, the idea of placing a classified ad seeking like-minded women came quickly.
That one ad turned into 30 phone calls. Those 30 phone calls turned
into needing a meeting room big enough to organize all the activity ideas
that were being presented. In Jan. of 2004 non-profit status was
granted, and the club established membership dues to help with basic
expenses. To say that it was wildly popular is an understatement.
Exactly six months later there were 100 paid members, and it is still
growing by leaps and bounds today. What kind of women join?
Stay-at-home-moms to business owners 20-something to 80-something make it
a well rounded club. A surprising fact to everyone is that 2/3 of
the membership is married and 1/3 is single. These statistics show
there is a real need that all women have for finding new ways of
connecting with other women. Come join us soon. We will make
you feel welcome!
