The Oxford Women’s Social Club is based in Oxford, Michigan but is for women from all areas around the metro-Detroit area. It is quite unique. It is a non-profit that operates without officers, without a board of directors and without board or committee meetings. However, a treasurer keeps a set of books listing expenditures of the annual dues.
Linda Grunewald founded the club in October 2003 and in Jan. 2004 started holding monthly meetings. Within one year’s time there were 150 members. Linda conducts the meetings and publishes emailed newsletters and updates.
The club calendar usually has a minimum of 12 different activities listed each month. These are held in the daytime, evening and sometimes on weekends so it’s easy to find something to fit everyone’s schedule. They currently include: a hiking group, a group called “anything goes” that goes someplace different each month, dominoes, book club, Texas hold ‘em, bunco, two gourmet cooking groups, Saturday lunch and a movie, mah-jongg and a restaurant dinner party held at a different place each month. Then there are the one-time events such as plays, day trips and get-togethers in homes. Members volunteer to organize the events and help with the behind the scenes jobs when needed. It works!
Staring in 2009 meetings will be held the first Wednesday of each month but only in the months of April through Nov. Contact Linda at hickorycreek1@sbcglobal.net to find out where the meetings are being held or to find out how to join without attending a meeting first.
The OWSC is strictly a social club and holds no fund raisers. But a free will offering is taken at the meetings for FISH the local food pantry.
Annual dues are $25. And the added bonus of membership is that any monies leftover in the treasury at the end of the year are used to throw a first-class Christmas holiday party at a local country club. That party alone is worth the price of membership!
Many best friends and close relationships have formed over the years because of this club. All women of all ages from all areas are welcome. We hope you will join us soon!
